The Name: from San Rocco, patron saint of the hamlet and from Seno d'Elvio, the stream that flows in the valley. Elvio is the Roman emperor Publius Elvio Pertinax born here and who ruled in Rome for a few months until 28 March 193 AD when he was killed in a conspiracy. The hamlet of Barbaresco called Pertinace also derives its name from the emperor.
