PRODUCTION SPECIFICATIONS

Barbaresco obtained the Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin with the Presidential Decree of 1 July 1980, while the recognition of the DOC dates back to the Presidential Decree of 23 April 1966. The rules established by the current regulations are updated to the Ministerial Decree of 03.07.2014 on the official Mipaaf website - Quality and Safety Section for DOP and IGP Wines

NAME

The controlled and guaranteed designation of origin «Barbaresco» is reserved for red wines that meet the conditions and requirements established by this production specification, for the following typologies:
– Barbaresco
– Barbaresco Riserva
– Barbaresco and Barbaresco Riserva, with one of the «Additional Geographical Mentions» to which the mention «vineyard» can be added followed by the relevant toponym under the conditions established by the Specifications themselves.

WINEMAKING RULES

The mandatory winemaking and aging operations of Barbaresco must be carried out within the production area.
