In 1988 Virna, a graduate in Oenology and the first woman in Italy to graduate in Oenological Technique, began to work alongside her father Lodovico in running the winery. The family vineyards date back to 1720, while the company itself was founded by Enrico Borgogno in 1950. Today the reins of the company have passed entirely into the hands of Virna and her sister Ivana who takes care of the administrative and commercial side. In 2001, the decision was also made to renew the image of the winery, inserting the “Virna” logo and giving greater emphasis to the important female role present in the winery. The Nebbiolo vineyards suitable for Barbaresco are located in the Montersino cru, on the side of the municipality of Treiso.
