The family business was founded in the 1930s by the grandfather of the current owner Roberto Taverna. He purchased and planted vineyards in Neive, one of the 4 municipalities in the Barbaresco DOCG area. The company was among the first to bottle Barbaresco cru wines, such as “Cascina Slizza” (now part of Gaia-Principe MGA) in 1974 under the name of Vina Versio, the founder’s widow. The company’s first “official” vintage was 2016 and since 2019, with the arrival of a new winemaker, Taverna Wines has begun to vinify most of the grapes produced by the company.
